summer at Foothills Community Church
I haven't blogged in quite a while, but as July is approaching rapidly, I wanted to touch on a couple of highlights so far this summer at Foothills Community Church.
Even though we are in the middle of summer, things are happening at FCC!
Our Student ministry (middle and sr. high school) led by Pastor Justin Terry had their Axis summer camp in Myrtle Beach a couple of weeks ago. The theme this year was Limitless.... God is able to accomplish more than we can think or imagine (Eph. 3:20)
This is the second year in a row that we have done our own student camp. This year was even better. We were joined by churches from Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and of course South Carolina and Georgia.
I was not able to get there, but I have been told by many that this was the best camp experience that they had ever been a part of. Justin did a great job of building a team of staff and volunteers that helped make this event such a great success. The teenagers loved the worship times and other activities.
Our Kids camp (3rd grade through 6th grade) just got back from their camp in Alabama, and the feedback was the same. Another home run. My wife (Liz Oraham), is a great leader and is passionate about helping kids find and follow Jesus, but she had wonderful volunteers that came to help make sure it was a fantastic experience for the kids. This was the largest group of kids that have gone ever, and judging by the response, next year will be even bigger!
We celebrated The Lord's Supper and baptisms during a special Sunday evening service that was amazing. Pastor David Odom and his worship team did an acoustic evening that was incredible. Our Habersham and Toccoa campuses came together in Toccoa for theirs which was really cool.
These are always services that I look forward to. We'll be doing another one in the Fall.
We started a summer series (June and July) through the book of Proverbs called, "There's an App For That" that is so much fun. Proverbs is such a practical book, that there is no way you can read it without being challenged.
We are seeing the Lord do many amazing things in people's lives. I love hearing the God-stories! Keep inviting your friends!

I am excited about this!
Over the last 3 years I have been blogging on a limited basis. As I look back over the blogs that I have posted, there seems to be a trend that people are most interested in the posts I've done about health and fitness.
I am shocked how many people from around the world have viewed these: Let's Get In Shape and Health and Fitness Update.
Quite honestly I hesitate every time I do one of those posts, because I don't want to be "that guy". You know the guy I'm talking about, every blog post or tweet has something to do with their workout that day. On the other hand, I have had so many people who have been inspired by my journey, that it would be a shame not to share what the Lord is doing in regards to fitness.
So here's what I'm going to be doing, in the next couple of months I am going to create a separate blog and Twitter account devoted ONLY to health and fitness. That way people can choose to keep up to date on that topic if they feel inclined.
In the meantime I'll probably only blog sparingly about random things.
I have a real burden for helping people in not only their spiritual lives, but also their physical lives. This burden is especially strong for Pastors.
Pastors as a whole tend to be overweight. A 2001 Pulpit and Pew study of 2,500 clergy found that 76% were overweight or obese compare to 61% of the general population at the time of the study. My guess is that it even higher today!
I feel compelled to help, so stay tuned for some exciting details!!

40 Days In The Word
It has been my experience that almost everyone is interested in the Bible to some degree. Most people own one, and most have picked it up and read at least a portion of it. But unfortunately many people have set it back down because it seemed so intimidating to them.
For me personally, once I began to understand how to read and study the Bible, it came alive to me. Our hope through the next 40 days or so, is that this study will ignite a passion in people to read their Bibles.
Here's what I know. There are millions of books out there. If you don't believe me, just go to Amazon and take a look. Many of those books are great reads, but there is only one book that can truly change your life, that's the Bible.
Suppose you were watching a TV infomercial that advertised a book that taught the secrets of success in life—how to improve relationships—how to excel in business—how to select a spouse—how to have a great sex life—how to raise kids—how to overcome stress and worry, and live forever in heaven, would you get your pen and write down that 1-800 number? You bet you would.
That’s what the Bible tells us and MORE! But the best part about the Bible is that it teaches us about our God. It teaches us of His glory, His character and nature. It shares of His immense and intense love for us. It tells us the story of our Savior and the gospel message. Yes, the Bible is no ordinary book, but unless we read it, study it, memorize and meditate on it and mostly obey it, it cannot change us!
Please join us beginning this Sunday as we begin this journey together.
