Since it's already Wednesday, I thought I would just share some random thoughts, so bear with me because they're extremely random.
* This past Sunday at Foothills Community Church was awesome. I pretty much did nothing. Brian Rhodes preached for me and did an amazing job!
* Worship was led by Kevin Robison who is our Toccoa campus worship Pastor. David Odom was out of town spending time with family, but we never missed a beat. Kevin did incredible job.
* What a blessing it is that God has provided so many gifted people at FCC. And I'm not just talking about our staff. We have so many incredibly gifted volunteers as well!
* I got so sunburned last weekend. I'm starting to peel. I hate peeling.
* Don't forget that June 10th will be our next baptism party at Lake Keowee. There are no parties like FCC parties! If you would like to be baptized sign-up today!
* Speaking of baptism, I loved having Justin Terry, our youth Pastor, out front in the dunk tank. So thankful for his willingness to take one for the team.
* You won't believe what we've got planned out for our Father's Day on June 17th. Trust me, if you are a guy, you NEED to be at FCC. We are going to be giving away some UNBELIEVABLE prizes! You will hear more about this on Sunday.
* I went for my one year check-up since having my stents put in. My cardiologist said I am doing fantastic! You can read more about that here.
* I just heard that Foothills Community Church had the 3rd most baptisms of all Southern Baptist churches in the State of South Carolina for 2011! (There are around 2,000 SBC churches in SC) That is a result of the folks at FCC that continue to help others Find and Follow Jesus!
* Son Sports begins next Monday afternoon. This is going to be HUGE! Invite every kid you see. They will have the time of their life!
* Went to watch my middle grand daughter's awards/graduation from kindergarten. I can't believe how time flies.
* Summer is here. Have you considered using our online giving option? This will help you to stay consistent in your giving throughout the summer.
* I officially got ripped-off by someone on Craig's List. Not happy about that.

sunday review
It was another great day at Foothills Community Church yesterday. I really love the people that I get do life and ministry with.
* I thought David Odom and the band knocked it out of the park yesterday. I know I've said it 1,000 times, but wow, we are blessed to have the worship team that we do at FCC!
* We kicked off the Urban Legends message series, with the #1 church urban legend out there, "God helps those who help themselves."
* Although there is a measure of truth to that statement, overall the Bible teaches just the opposite. God helps those who CAN'T help themselves.
* This series has a similar feel to the Questions Uncensored series (which I love).
* Memorial Day weekend is coming up. It's hard to believe that summer is here.
* We are really gearing up for SonSports. Make sure you bring your kids/grandkids. There are some huge things planned. Parents, don't miss this opportunity for your kids to encounter Christ through sports, art and crafts, music and skits.
* Our next Baptism Party is coming on June 10th at Biggerstaff Retreat Center. You will be hearing a lot more details about it starting next Sunday.
* I usually avoid going to Walmart, but my wife asked me to stop by yesterday afternoon for a couple of grocery items, so I did. I must have seen 50 people that I knew in 20 minutes. It was like a Foothills Community Church reunion!
* My softball team won the FCC softball league. Not bragging, just stating the facts :-)
* I am really excited about this. Supposed to be out in July.
* Was really hoping to begin a hybrid program of P90X and Insanity, but it's currently on hold because I ordered the Insanity DVD's from Craig's List, and it appears that I have been ripped-off. So until my dispute is settled I will stick exclusively with my P90X.
* I loved this message by James McDonald about consumerism in the church.

sunday review
It was an awesome day as we celebrated Mother's day at Foothills Community Church.
** I loved the energy yesterday morning. Normally when it's rainy and gloomy, people have a tendency to be pretty mellow. Not yesterday! The parking lot was even buzzing thanks to the greeting team that had the Mom Mobile (golf carts running, and the umbrella team helping people stay dry)
** We had 22 people that gave their lives to Jesus at our Seneca campus. Also, we had hundreds raise their hands and repent of not reading their Bibles with passion and zeal, and committing to dive into God's Word with a renewed awe!
** We had tons of parents dedicate their children to the Lord. In our 11:15am service there was literally not enough room across the stage for everyone! I love all of the young families the Lord is sending to Foothills Community Church.
** We also gave gifts to every single parent/ grandparent that was trying to raise their child by themselves. I applaud these people because they are working hard to provide for their families in a single income household.
** Our Toccoa campus had a phenomenal day as well. Several spiritual decisions and lots of parent/child dedications.
** My wife spent lots of time in the concourse promoting our Son Sports. She was the pretty lady that was wearing the football shoulder pads, cheerleader pom-poms and dribbling a basketball. In case you're not familiar with Son Sports, it's Foothills version of Vacation Bible School, but we add the element of a sports theme. (For kids that aren't into sports we have arts and crafts as well) They meet in the Venue auditorium for a time of music, skits, games and a Biblical message, and then they head out to their sport of choice. It is a blast. You can sign-up your child here.
** With summer almost upon us, have you considered using our online giving option? This is a good way to stay consistent in your financial support of the ministry of Foothills Community Church even when you're out of town. It only takes a couple of minutes to sign-up. It's safe, secure and convenient.

Sunday review
I really loved the services at Foothills Community Church this past Sunday. Here are a few observations:
* Our worship Pastor David Odom was on a well-deserved mini-vacation. He does an amazing job leading us every week, and we are blessed to have him. He is one of the best worship leaders in America (if not the world)!
* Our worship didn't miss a beat, because the team stepped up and brought the heat. Bill Swindle and Mary Douglas tagged-teamed the worship leading role and along with our incredible band, led us to God's throne.
* Right before our first service one of or projectors decided to break down, but as Brian Rhodes so aptly reminded us, God is bigger than non-working projectors.
* We continued the Kings series. I must say that I enjoyed delivering the message on Jehu so much. I have wanted to do a message on him for the last couple of years.
* I believe that Jehu is one of the top 5 most interesting men in the Bible, and yet 90% of the people have never heard of him. Do yourself a favor and read 2 Kings 9-10.
* Jehu had the potential to go down in history as one of the greatest king in Israel, but missed it.
* We have to be careful to live our lives without an asterisk. (That statement will make no sense unless you watch the message)
* I received one of the most encouraging notes from someone (anonymously) that I have had in a long time. Thank you, whoever you are!
* I am preparing for a funeral for this Thursday. Pray that the Lord would do a great work.
* I want to thank all of the people that volunteer at Foothills. You are our Dream Team. We couldn't do it without you.
*Our Toccoa campus also had a great Sunday. They are led by two awesome Foothills staff members (and a ton of great volunteers) Brian Marshall is our campus Pastor, and Kevin Robison is our worship Pastor. By the way, Kevin is also one of the best worship leaders in America (if not the world!) too.
* We will be wrapping up the Kings series this Sunday. You don't want to miss it.
* Don't forget, that Sunday is also Mother's Day. We have a couple of very cool things planned! So bring your Mom and we'll see you Sunday.
* Summer is just around the corner, but we are not putting it in neutral at Foothills. We've got some really cool things planned all summer long. Stay tuned for more details.

Let's talk about health
Well I decided to dedicate an entire post to health and fitness. As most of you are aware, last April (2011) the doctor discovered that I had a build-up of plaque in a couple of the arteries in my heart. It apparently was a hereditary thing, as I had no symptoms whatsoever. The only thing that was slightly elevated was my overall cholesterol number which was 225. This wasn't a real concern for the doctor because my HDL (good cholesterol) and my LDL (bad cholesterol) numbers were so good. But as it turned out, there was still a couple of arteries with significant blockage.
They decided to do a heart cath, and once they got in they decided to put in 2 stents to fix the blockages. All of this came as a complete shock, to say the least.
After the procedure the recovery time was quick, and I was back playing softball within a week, and basketball within 2 weeks.
My cardiologist also changed my diet (which really wasn't too bad to begin with) to a very low fat diet. My maximum fat grams for a day I am allowed is 30, which is difficult at first to get to. I decided that I was going to go all the way with my health so I took it upon myself to adjust my diet even further. Which leads me to this blog post.
I have had so many people ask me what I'm doing I decided to cover everything.
Let's start with nutrition. A lot of people go to the gym, but never adjust their eating habits and get minimal results. You have to eat right. I track everything I eat using MyFitnessPal. My main concern is my fat intake, but I monitor everything anyway.
Over the last eleven months I have lost approx. 12 lbs. but it's not because I'm not eating. I'm just eating the right foods. I pretty much eat all day long. My personal target calorie intake is around 2,000 calories, which goes a long way when you're not eating junk.
I have cut from my diet all fatty foods, fried foods, beef, processed foods, cheese, ice cream (I do have fat-free yogurt), cake, cookies, candy, pizza, fast food, butter, margarine, regular mayonaise, regular salad dressings, potato chips, high sodium foods.
I do eat mostly chicken or turkey breast, venison tenderloin, fish (all of these are grilled only) I will sometimes eat lower fat, lean sliced turkey deli meat. I eat a lot of fruit. I can have all the veggies I want, unfortunately I don't like most veggies. I do eat a lot of salads (Low fat dressing), brown rice, whole wheat pasta, whole wheat pita bread. I have a Myoplex lite protein bar daily as a meal replacement. For breakfast I eat Kashi cereal with raisins and skim milk.
As far as supplements, I take a daily multi-vitamin, fish oil, and on weight training days I will have 2 protein shakes with skim milk. I use ISO-100 because it's fat and carb free, and it tastes awesome!
Although I keep track of carbs and protein, the main thing I focus on is my fat and cholesterol intake.
Now let's talk about fitness/exercise.
Most of you hear me talking about P90X. I am a huge fan. Over the years I have done my own thing, and I have also done Body For Life, but in my opinion, P90X is hard to beat. I do not follow their program exactly. For instance, because of my cardiologists recommendation, I bypass the P90x eating plan. I also substitute basketball in place of P90X cardio routine. If I don't play basketball or if I don't feel like I played with enough intensity, I will do P90X Plyometrics routine (which is a beast).
Here's what this looks like for this week coming up. Monday: Basketball, and P90X Ab ripperX in the evening. Tuesday: P90X shoulders/arms. Wednesday: Basketball and P90X ab ripperX in the evening. Thursday: P90X back/bicep. Friday: Basketball and P90X ab ripperX in the evening (Possibly also Plyometrics) Saturday: P90X Chest/shoulders/triceps. Sunday: Rest (play softball).
The average P90X routine takes approximately 50 minutes. it is high intensity with few breaks. It is awesome!
I purchased my P90X DVD's on Craig's List for $55.00 new in the box from someone who got them as a gift, but didn't use them.
I can honestly say that I am in the best shape of my life. I have never been overweight, but I have not only dropped pounds , but also a couple of inches off my waist, and my body fat is less than 8%
My cholesterol has dropped from 225 to 128 in the last 11 months.
I had to go back to the cardiologist a couple of months ago for a follow-up visit for a nuclear stress test. Basically, they shoot you up with medicine and put you on a treadmill to try to see what your heart does under stress. The people doing the test said that they couldn't get my heart rate up enough because I was in such good shape!
My latest fitness challenge is that I have ordered the Insanity DVD's and plan to do a hybrid P90X/Insanity/basketball routine.
Here's the bottom line. Anyone can do this! It takes hard work, and dedication. It's not easy, but it's worth it. I have added links to a lot of the stuff that I am doing, but there are lots of other good ways to get healthy. I would also recommend Upstate Bootcamp. Pamela helps people acheive their fitness goals, She is a member of Foothills Community Church and has helped hundreds of people!

Sunday Review
A little late getting to this, but it was a great Sunday at Foothills Community Church. In case you missed it, here are a few things that caught my attention.
* I am really enjoying the Kings series. It is always so amazing that there is so much we have in common with people that lived thousands of years ago.
* We talked about the "IT" Factor. If you've ever wondered what God looks for, it's our heart condition. What made King David special was that he was a man after God's own heart.
* This Sunday we will look at a king that I guarantee every single person will be able to relate to.
* David Odom and his team nailed the worship set. They just keep getting better and better.
* I love what is going on at our Toccoa campus! I am so proud of Pastor Brian and Pastor Kevin and all of the amazing volunteers.
* I am always excited to hear great stories. I received a note this week from someone who has been out of work for three years. They had made a vow to God that when He provided a job for them, they would give the entire first paycheck back to Him. The note was attached to their check fulfilling that commitment to the Lord---- WOW!
* We will be having our Parent/Child dedications on Mother's Day (May 13th) during both services. If you are a parent of a child/baby, and would like to dedicate them to the Lord publicly, you can sign-up this weekend.
* I had a blast leading our Get In The Game on Sunday. I love leading that class. If you have not gone through it, make sure to do it in our next class in June.
* I ordered the Insanity DVD's. I am planning on working some of that in with my P90X. If you are looking for a fantastic exercise/nutrition program I would highly recommend the P90X program. I have had a lot of people ask me about my fitness regiment, so I'll probably do an entire blog post related to that.

Sunday review
The Sunday after Easter is always pretty interesting. History tells us that not everyone that shows up at Easter will be back the following week (I write that with a slight hint of sarcasm!), but many people will return a second time. Which is always exciting.
I can't help feel sorry for those that won't make it back to church until Christmas Eve. When I consider the important role the church plays in my life, it grieves me that so many actually miss out on it.
Sunday was another fantastic day at Foothills Community Church. People gathered to worship, lives were changed and Jesus was lifted high. In a way, sometimes I think that because the services at Foothills are done with such a high level of excellence, many people take that for granted.
We as humans have an uncanny ability to become "familiar" with things to the point that we no longer have the same passion that we once had. It happens in our marriages. It happens with the cars we drive and the homes we live in. When we first get married, or buy that car or house we are so excited. But as time goes by, we lose some of the "wonder" or appreciation.
It happens in churches as well. If we are not careful, what once was excitement, and passion can turn into complacency. Let's not ever let that happen.
Let's get back to Sunday, shall we?
* Once again David Odom and the worship team brought the heat. Such a great worship set.
* It was great seeing so many people return after Easter. I do my best to mingle in the concourse between services and shake as many hands as possible.
* I absolutely love to see our members and regular attenders going out of their way to connect with new people. I heard of a couple that met a first-time guest and took her out to lunch after the service. Nice!
* Foothills volunteers rock. They go the extra mile EVERY week!
* Talked about obedience and people-pleasing. We need to live for the applause of God rather than men.
* Religious activity is not a substitute for obedience.
* True obedience is doing what God says willingly, immediately and completely.

I can't help feel sorry for those that won't make it back to church until Christmas Eve. When I consider the important role the church plays in my life, it grieves me that so many actually miss out on it.
Sunday was another fantastic day at Foothills Community Church. People gathered to worship, lives were changed and Jesus was lifted high. In a way, sometimes I think that because the services at Foothills are done with such a high level of excellence, many people take that for granted.
We as humans have an uncanny ability to become "familiar" with things to the point that we no longer have the same passion that we once had. It happens in our marriages. It happens with the cars we drive and the homes we live in. When we first get married, or buy that car or house we are so excited. But as time goes by, we lose some of the "wonder" or appreciation.
It happens in churches as well. If we are not careful, what once was excitement, and passion can turn into complacency. Let's not ever let that happen.
Let's get back to Sunday, shall we?
* Once again David Odom and the worship team brought the heat. Such a great worship set.
* It was great seeing so many people return after Easter. I do my best to mingle in the concourse between services and shake as many hands as possible.
* I absolutely love to see our members and regular attenders going out of their way to connect with new people. I heard of a couple that met a first-time guest and took her out to lunch after the service. Nice!
* Foothills volunteers rock. They go the extra mile EVERY week!
* Talked about obedience and people-pleasing. We need to live for the applause of God rather than men.
* Religious activity is not a substitute for obedience.
* True obedience is doing what God says willingly, immediately and completely.

Happy Birthday Foothills!
Well today is the 14th birthday of Foothills Community Church! That's right, 14 years ago, on April 12th 1998 (Easter Sunday) Foothills officially launched.
Here's a copy of our first newspaper ad (not very impressive!)
It was an incredible day. After much prayer, planning, preparation, promotion and perspiration we held our first service. 70 People showed up! We were ecstatic.
We didn't have a lot of resources or expertise but we had a vision from God and a heart to reach people! And God showed up. Lives were changed, and a movement began in Seneca, SC.
It's hard to believe it was 14 years ago. I remember on that Easter Sunday wondering if anyone would actually show up. Fortunately they did. And they have continued to show up. Since then we have expanded by opening a second campus in Toccoa, GA, and once again God is growing a church there.
Over the last 14 years we have seen THOUSANDS saved, over a thousand baptized, and countless stories of life-change. But here's the best part..... WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED!! That's right, I believe the best is yet to come!
I want every person who calls Foothills home to strategically build relationships with people who don't know Christ and invite them to come to church with you. I want all of us to live our lives on mission, seeking ways to serve Christ and others.
We are praying about some new opportunities that God is giving us to expand our reach even farther. These are exciting times. I hope to share some incredible news with you in the next couple of months about these opportunities, so stay tuned.

Easter review
To say that the Easter services at Foothills Community Church were incredible would be an UNDERSTATEMENT! They were absolutely amazing.
* Every single one of our teams were firing on all cylinders. From the moment you drove onto campus until the time you left, there was so much energy.
* I want to state for the record, that the volunteers at Foothills are THE Best in the world. For everyone that volunteers, I want to thank you. You are making a difference.
* Both campuses had fantastic crowds, in fact, our Toccoa campus had their all-time highest attendance! Between the 2 campuses we had around 2,500 people experience one of our services.
* We had 48 people make first-time decisions to follow Jesus Christ!!
* David Odom and the worship team killed it! They inspired us with incredible music. When they did "In Christ Alone", I think I could have walked on stage and gave an invitation, it was so powerful.
* The new stage set was very cool. I think it was one of my favorites ever.
* Tons of kids in KidZone (almost 500 at Seneca campus alone!)
* I got a chance to meet so many first-time guests. I love watching the expressions on people's faces when they come for the first time. Most people have huge smiles on their faces, but every now and then you see the "what did I get myself into?" look!
* We kicked-off our new series, Kings. This is going to be a life-changing series. Whatever you do, don't miss a single week.
* I am praying that many of the guests who came yesterday would connect and discover the joy and benefit of having a church home.
* I am so glad that our team that served in Haiti got back safely. I know that their lives will be changed forever.
* Don't forget that on April 22nd I will be leading our next Get In The Game class. Please plan on attending. I would love to meet you.

Easter Update
Easter is just a few days away so I wanted to share a few very important things with you:
* There are very few tickets left. Most of the remaining tickets are for the 11:15am service. If you have not picked yours up, you can print your own tickets here.
* Make sure to invite some people to come with you. One recent survey showed that 82% of people said they would most likely attend church this Easter if someone invited them. There are lots of ways to invite, but one of the best is by sending an E-Vite or using social media like your Facebook or Twitter account. We have these available to send out here.
* This Easter at Foothills Community Church we are pulling out all of the stops. The stage set looks absolutely amazing. The band, singers and choir are all preparing for some of the best music anywhere. The hospitality and guest services teams are all set to make this the most enjoyable experience for everyone that walks through the doors.
* We will be also starting a new message series on Easter called, "Kings". I can't wait to do this series!
* As far as our service times, at our Seneca, SC campus we will have services at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:15am. At our Toccoa, GA campus we will have services at 9:30, and 11:00am
* Make sure to arrive a little earlier than usual to allow for the large crowds.
* I am praying that we have record number of people that give their lives to Christ. Please join me in that prayer.
* Our staff spent part of Monday morning praying over every seat in our auditorium.
* Easter will also be Foothills 14th birthday as a church!! Time sure flies.

Back in town
I'm back at the office after being gone for the past week. My week has been a whirlwind. It began last Monday as my wife and I headed to California for a Leadership meeting. It was the first time I had been to California, and the first time I had seen the Pacific ocean. Being from Florida, I still favor the Atlantic, but it was still beautiful.
My leadership meeting was incredible. There was a group of approx. 25 Pastors from all over the country. I picked up so much valuable information. It was nice having Liz with me too.
After the meeting was over, we decided to take a few extra days of vacation for our 28th anniversary. We drove to Las Vegas and walked the Strip. I'm not sure how many miles we walked, but it was a bunch. It was also my first time in Vegas. The best way I can describe it is "interesting". We did a lot of people watching, and let me tell you, there are some strange people in Vegas!
We then drove to the Grand Canyon, which was awesome. I have seen many pictures of it, but none of them came close to being there in person. Breathtaking scenery. God's creative genius is on display everywhere. It was 27 degrees in the morning, but quickly warmed up to the mid 60's. The skies were the bluest skies I have ever seen. There was still some snow on some of the mountainsides.
After the Grand canyon we headed back to Vegas. We attended the Saturday evening service at Central Christian Church, and then got to tour the facility with my friend Tracey Smith, who is their Small Groups Pastor. That was a great experience.
All in all we had a wonderful time. I am grateful to the great staff we have at Foothills Community Church. They do an amazing job. I can go out of town and not worry about a thing.

Sunday review
It was a great day at BOTH campuses of Foothills Community Church. Let's start with our Toccoa, GA campus:
* They had another big crowd and exciting services.
* 11 People were baptized! Toccoa continues to get it done, when it comes to baptisms..... amazing!
* The stories of life-change are awesome.
* Lots of first-time guests.
In Seneca, SC we had a fantastic day too. Here are some highlights:
* We continued our Genius of Generosity series. It is such a challenging series.
* Whenever you talk about $, some people get pretty tense. Seriously, from my vantage point on stage, it is very interesting to see the responses. Lots of squirming and people getting up, etc.
* I'm pretty sure that the reason that the Bible has so many verses about money and possessions is because we have made it our God.
* If all of the people of Foothills could grasp the concept of stewardship (The careful responsible management of the things God places in our care), it would change our lives.
* Fortunately many are already catching that vision. Just this this morning a man came by the office to drop off a check for the church to use to help someone in crisis!
* I can't wait for this Sunday as we wrap up this series. You do not want to miss it.
* We topped of the the day with a Lord's Supper service yesterday evening. It was an incredible time of worship.

UN-Believable day
It was truly an unbelievable day at Foothills Community Church. There were so many highlights for me, but I wanted to share a couple:
* I LOVED having the youth sitting front and center today. But what was really great is that they weren't just sitting passively, no, they were totally engaged. Students, you raised the bar for the adults this morning!
* Another great part was that we baptized 30 more people today!! That is why we do what we do!
* I know a lot of people were dragging a bit from losing an hour of sleep, but I'm thankful for everyone that came ready to worship.
* I am pumped out of my mind about our new series, The Genius of Generosity. I truly believe that this will be the most life-changing series we have ever done. there are going to be a lot of people that learn what it means to be generous, and not only will it change their lives, but the ones that will be the recipients of their generosity!
* You don't want to miss part 2 next week!
* We will be observing the lord's Supper next Sunday evening from 6:00-7:00pm at our Seneca campus.
* I love what God is doing at Foothills Community Church!!

Heads-Up for this Sunday
Just a quick heads-up for this Sunday:
* First of all..... DON'T miss it. We are starting a brand new series that I think could be the most life-changing series we've EVER done at Foothills Community Church!
* Don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour tonight. That's right, we lose an hour of sleep. That's a bummer I know, but just prepare for it by going to bed a little earlier.
* We will be celebrating baptism at both services at Seneca campus (Toccoa will have baptisms on March 18th!) We will be doing them a bit different. We will do them right after the second worship song, which means if you are going to be baptized come prepared. So come into the service in your shorts, shirts and towels.

Sunday review
Awesome day yesterday at Foothills Community Church. It was great having my good friend, Doug Walker delivering the message. Doug is the Lead Pastor of Fellowship of the Parks in Texas.
Doug and I got connected through a leadership community he and I participated in. He has become a great friend, and I must say he did an incredible job. He spoke very candidly about his adoption, and showed a video that brought most people to tears. I am thankful that Doug gave up a weekend to be with us!
It is always a little "different" for me when I am not preaching. Believe it or not, in some ways it's actually harder. But I must say, it is nice to have a week to take a breather. I am actually trying to do that more. I think it's healthy for a church body to be exposed to many different speakers. Generally I preach between 38-40 Sundays a year.
A couple of other thoughts:
* Ignite begins this Friday. Please pray for our teenagers, staff, and volunteers. This weekend could change lives for eternity!
* Got a chance to introduce Justin Terry, our new Student Pastor to our church. We tried to trick him by telling him that since this was his first Sunday, it was customary to wear a suit. He didn't buy it, but he did wear a tie!
* Follow-Up on Sunday evenings has been a blast! I think everyone is enjoying it.
* I am absolutely crazy-excited about the new series we'll be starting this Sunday!! It will be life-changing.
* I'm loving doing P90X. It is brutal, intense and difficult, but strangely enjoyable.

Big Sunday planned
I have been looking forward to this Sunday at Foothills Community Church. You do not want to miss it.
We will be wrapping up the Social Networks series in a very cool way. Rather than tell you what we have planned, I'll leave you in a bit of suspense.
In addition to that, this Sunday at our Seneca campus we will introduce our new Student Pastor, Justin Terry. I'm very excited about that.
Speaking of student ministry.... on Friday March 9th, our annual event called, Ignite will begin! This is a life-changing event for so many teenagers. Be sure to pray that God will do some amazing things in their lives. I have copied some of the info that Brian Rhodes shared from the Ignite Facebook page so you can get a feel of what is coming up:
If you're new to IGNITE, here's a general description. Think of it as an entire weekend of Thrive! The weekend will include 3 main sessions, a concert, mission projects, and free time activities. Students will be housed at host homes with a group leader. Both the host home volunteers and group leaders have been thoroughly screened, and trained. Students will be grouped according to age and gender. This allows for a meaningful small group time where students and their leaders can follow-up on the main session.
This year we've chosen to do something a little different. In the past, we've brought in a single speaker from outside the group to teach. In preparing for this year's event, I felt that God was leading us to make this more of a “Big C” church event, so each session will be led by a Student Pastor from a local church. We're excited to have Jeremy Garret from Open Door Baptist Church and Shane and Nicole Frank from United Assembly of God leading two of our sessions. The third will be led some no-name dude from Foothills :) Worship will be led by Chase Callahan. He was with last year, and did a phenomenal job. We're pumped about having him back.

Sunday review
It was a long Sunday for me, but I had a blast! I pretty much spent the day at church. (I actually got a chance to run home for an hour or so, but had to turn around and come back)
* We continued our Social Networks series. We have been talking about relationships. But rather than talking about the common relationship topics, we have been discussing the messy side of relationships.
* Yesterday's topic was loving our neighbors and loving our enemies. Tough stuff!
* Lots of people told me that God did some serious convicting in their hearts about some people they have not really forgiven for hurting them.
* The public schools had a 4 day weekend, so I think a lot of people were traveling.
* We will be wrapping up our series this Sunday.

* We had a great Get In The Game class yesterday. A bunch of new people got connected!
* We also had our 2nd Follow-Up campus group. It was a wonderful time. I would encourage you to come this Sunday at 6:00pm in the Venue auditorium.

get connected
They say that there are only 2 things that are certain; death and taxes, but I have found something that is nearly as certain when it comes to the church.
Here it is: If people do not get connected, they will not stay more than a year.
I have seen this play out over and over. Someone starts attending regularly, and then the next thing you know, they're gone.
Sunday morning worship service attendance is not enough!
In other words, if the only connection a person has is attending a church service on Sunday morning, they won't make it for long..... no matter how much they enjoy the services.
The key is connection. The way to get connected at Foothills Community Church is through serving and Find and Follow group participation.
Let me explain these 2 connection points:
Serving: At Foothills we have dozens of ministry teams. There are opportunities to get connected through serving in such areas as KidZone (Children's ministry), Thrive (Student ministry), stage construction, administrative support, hospitality, praise team, choir, musicians, video, graphics, lighting, greeters, group leaders, care and support, and many more. In addition we have many opportunities to serve in our community and around the world with our Project Reach initiative.
Find and Follow Groups: These are groups of people that meet together throughout the week to study the Bible, and connect through relationships. Some of these groups meet in different members homes, some meet on our campus and some groups meet for different sports and hobbies.
Ideally you will serve and attend a Find and Follow group. The more relationships you build the "stickier" a church becomes.
The bottom line is, you need to get connected if you're going to stick. We want you to stick, we really do.

Sunday review
Hey Foothills family. God is up to something big right now! Sunday was an amazing day.
* Cold, rainy day, but it didn't seem to affect the attendance or the excitement that the people had.
* The worship team did two original songs yesterday. The last song of the worship set was one that David Odom wrote. I promise you, that song could be a hit song on the radio!
* I love our new website.
* The umbrella team was incredible yesterday. Thanks to all of you that made people's worship experience a dry one!
* KidZone numbers were way up. Our kid's ministry is second to none! These kids are finding and following Jesus.
* I wish I could get people to sit near the front rather than the back. Why is it, at a football game we would rather have seats on the 50 yard line near the field, but at church the back seats are the premium seats??
* Lots of people are discovering the ease of giving online. Have you signed-up yet? You can do it in just a couple of minutes here.
* We had our first Follow-Up yesterday evening. It was very cool. Had a lot of people come, but there is room for more. Plan on coming THIS Sunday at 6:00pm
* The Social Networks series has been amazing. This Sunday is going to be the most challenging yet!
* Jeremy Lin and Linsanity has become a nationwide sensation. He is not only a phenomenal basketball player, but he's a Christ-follower. Here's a clip of him sharing a little about his faith.
